And since it’s not a bank holiday, many banks will be open on Dec. 31.Bank holidays refer to days on which banks close to observe a public holiday. There are 10 standard Federal Reserve Bank holidays, including New Year’s Day. When a public holiday occurs on a Saturday, Federal Reserve Banks and branches typically open the preceding Friday, according to the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System.
